Colour,
light, beauty, variety - these are the things I try to express
in my paintings. As a Christian and a pastor I believe I've been
created in God's image, and something of His passion to create finds
it's reflection in me. My ability to paint is His gift to me - and
through me to others. I've had no formal training as an artist - I just
make it up as I go along! Perhaps it's His inspiration!
My wife and I ministered for 22 years in southern Africa and I
have been captured by it's beauty, it's variety, and it's vastness.
Consequently, quite a lot of my artwork has a South African "flavour".
Now that we've been in the UK for a few years I'm finding the beauty of
this country also getting into my heart and I've found myself doing
more and more 'British flavoured' paintings. I plan a portfolio of
London scenes soon.
I've been producing art for nearly 20 years and have sold
pieces occasionally to help financially support specific mission
trips.I'm privileged to have my art enhancing homes on 3 continents.
For me - painting is a blessing. When I paint I invariably have
Afrikaans music on in the background, a glass of red wine at hand, and
a beautiful subject to try to portray on canvass.
I find pricing my work quite challenging. Art can vary in
value depending on many factors. I'd like to think, at this point in my
career, that most people can afford to have one of my "creations"
beautifying their home. |
